Selection Process

Our apprenticeship is an “earn while you learn” model. Selected students will participate in a formal classroom setting as well as be engaged with one of our many contractors in the field, through a training assignment, making real wages and benefits. Students will work in a full-time capacity in the field meanwhile attending classes once every other week during the months of September through June.

The Application & Selection Lifecycle.....

  1. Application. Online or in person. Can be submitted 24/7/365.
  2. Documentation. Submitted after application has been completed. Originals to be verified by JATC staff.
  3. Oral Interview. Typically conducted on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Interviews held at the training center. 
  4. Ranking. After interview, each applicant will be ranked. Ranked applicants will hold a position on the list of eligibility applicants. 
  5. Selection.  Position on the ranking list determins order in which offers of apprenticeship are made, starting with the highest. Offers made monthly.

The application & selection process takes 4-6 weeks, from application to selection. 

Step One: APPLICATION

To start technologies training you must first complete and submit an application form. You can complete an application online or in person. Supporting documentation (see below) will be required in order to complete your application. Documents may be uploaded; however, original documents must be verified in order to complete the application.

YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 17 YEARS OLD TO APPLY & 18 YEARS OF AGE TO PARTICIPATE IF SELECTED.

Documents needed to verify the minimum requirements are, but are not limited to:

  1. Valid driver’s license or state issued photo ID
  2. Certified copy of your birth certificate and/or Social Security Card
  3. Official copy of your high school transcript showing successful completion of Algebra I
  4. Diploma, Transcript, or GED showing High School graduation or equivalent 
  5. Form DD214 (military veterans only)

Step Two: INTERVIEW

After your application has been completed and all documents received and verified you will be scheduled for the next oral interview. Interviews are conducted monthly, typically the 4th Tuesday of the month starting at 1:00pm. It is recommended that the applicant arrive at least 30minutes before the start of the interview session. All applicants must be present and accounted for prior to their assigned time slot. Applicants are called before the interview committee in the order of their application number. The overall interview session will last approximately 2.5 hours so please plan accordingly. While the overall session may last hours, the actual interview will only last between 10-15 minutes.

The time from application to acceptance/ denial is often no more than a 4-6 week process.
